Zalan: A Tail of Hope
Category title

Zalan: A Tail of Hope is based on a real Hungarian Puli sheepdog, and because animals cannot tell us exactly what happened, this story is shaped around what is known of his journey. After his owner suffered a serious accident, Zalan and his family were taken to a rescue centre in Hungary. One by one his siblings were adopted, until only he and his mother, Mama Rose, were left. When she became ill, Zalan stopped eating and grew thin and withdrawn, unsure of his future.
His life changed when he was offered a new home in Austria with Larissa, who helped him rebuild trust at a pace he could manage. As he explored his new town—its traffic, shops, and unfamiliar noises—Zalan began to find confidence again. He made new friends, discovered simple joys, and even finished second in the dog school obstacle race.
A gentle story of rescue, healing, and second chances, Zalan: A Tail of Hope follows one small dog’s return to hope.
